Members of Moreland Community Historical Society (MCHS), in partnership with the Franklin Twp. Trustees, will be holding an E-waste and appliance collection event on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Franklin Township House parking lot located at 132 W. Moreland Road, Wooster.

This is the sixth year for the recycling event, which is organized and run by volunteers from MCHS. Old appliances large and small, along with scrap metal, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, electronics, car and truck batteries, and old power tools and equipment can be brought in. The regular dumpsters for sorted cardboard, glass, plastics, metal and paper will also be open.

“This has become a great community event and at a time of year when people want to clean out their garage or barn,” said David Bricker, MCHS secretary. “Basically, if it plugs in or works off a battery, we will take it.”

Flat screen TV’s and computer monitors will be accepted, but any TV/monitor with a tube or a real projection TV (any that is not flat screen) will require a $10 to $20 fee depending on the size. Tires and hazardous waste will not be taken at this event.

Scrap metal and e-cycle material collected last year totaled 5 tons. The scrap metal generated revenue to help the Historical Society with the nearby reconstruction and renovation of a log cabin originally built just over a mile away. The 1816 Gilmor/Hughes log cabin has been pieced back together, log by log, beside the 1882 Historical Moreland Church of God on State Route 83.

“If you are a Franklin Township resident and have a large appliance which you need help loading or transporting, we will provide pickup from May 9-13,” Bricker said. “There will be a $25 fee for this service.”
