Helping others May 14 is a walk to your mailbox away.

Thanks to area letter carriers, people throughout Wayne and Holmes counties will have a chance to help needy families while mailing their letters.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive will take place Saturday, May 14, allowing anyone with a mailbox the opportunity to help fight hunger in their local communities of Orrville, Wooster and Millersburg.

The collection day is the largest one-day food drive in the country, and whether someone donates one or two cans or an entire grocery bag full of nonperishable items like pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, oatmeal, peanut butter, soup, sauces or countless other items, it will all be put to good use in feeding the hungry.

All families must do to help those facing hunger is fill a bag with food and drop it off next to their mailbox on May 14 before their mail carrier arrives. Area carriers will not only be picking up their mail on Saturday, May 14, but also they will collect any donated nonperishable food items customers leave at their mailboxes.

All the collected food will be delivered to local food banks in the three cities.

Over more than two decades of collecting food during the drive, mail carriers have collected hundreds of thousands of pounds of food for those in need.

Help stamp out hunger by joining your local mail carriers and the U.S. Post Office on May 14.
