In celebration of Earth Day this year, The Wilderness Center will offer The Run Wild! Spring Trail Run on April 23 from 8 a.m. to noon. Take on the timed 10k or 5k or bring the whole family out for the 1-mile fun run.

Registration fees support conservation and nature education efforts in the community. Participants also can partake in a free yoga flow provided by Flex Yoga Studios after the races.

In addition to the various trail runs, Earth Day activities for the whole family are planned. At 10 a.m. the annual Tree of Life tree plantings will begin. Throughout the year donors give Tree of Life gifts in memory of loved ones, in honor of special achievements or to celebrate life’s monumental occasions.

The funds donated to this program support a conservation project, and this year work will continue to reforest an old farm field on Alabama Avenue by planting 250 sugar maples and 250 black cherry saplings.

Anyone who gave to the Tree of Life program or was honored with a Tree of Life gift for themselves or a loved one is encouraged to participate in the planting.

In addition, The Wilderness Center will feature local artists onsite demonstrating art with recycled materials. Other family-friendly events include a play date at the Nature Playscape with Earth Day science experiments and a spring flower walk led by a naturalist. All of these events — besides race registration — are free and open to the public.
